I offer a safe space in which to reflect upon life's challenges, to explore thoughts and feelings, and to find a path forward.
I respect everyone is unique and has their own way of engaging with this process. In the therapy sessions, I draw on a range of theory and resources, including Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis approaches. It is my belief that through engaging with therapy one can achieve a better understanding of self, feel more fulfilled and make the most of life.
I have helped people suffering from severe anxiety and depression, addictive behaviours, past trauma, abusive relationships, family and work stresses, physical illness and people with complex mental health diagnosis such as BPD, PTSD and C-PTSD.
The initial session will be an opportunity for both of us to introduce ourselves and explore the areas that could be the focus of the therapeutic work. This will allow us to reach an agreement in the type of support that will be suitable and could take the form of establishing goals or allowing space to see what might emerge later in therapy.
Alongside traditional talking therapy, and for clients who wish to engage with the arts, I offer the use of other modes of creative and artistic expression. This can provide further and useful insight, resonance and self-understanding. Often this will involve drawing or painting a picture to express a thought or feeling. Other times it could be listening to music, looking at postcard images or engaging with imagination exercises. You do not need to have any experience to be able to benefit with this aspect of the therapy, nor is using the arts imperative to your therapy sessions.
I have experience helping clients with:
depression
anxiety
loss of confidence
confusion about which direction to go in life
addiction
bereavement
complex needs / personality disorders
trauma and abuse
work stress
I come from a performing arts background as a musician, teacher and workshop leader in many schools and outreach programmes throughout the UK. Witnessing the power of the arts to transform the mental health of students and people in these settings has instructed my approach and commitment to my work as a therapist.
Alongside my busy private practice, my career has included seeing clients and supervising a team in an addiction setting in Central London, working in an NHS complex needs service providing art psychotherapy for those with personality disorders. I have also run individual and group art and music therapy for an addictions hospital and pre-dementia programme in South India. I teach and tutor students on the MA programme at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, Stratford.
I am an accredited member of:
UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy)
HCPC (The Health and Care Professions Council)
BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists)
IATE (The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education)
BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine)
I have completed training (accredited by BACP) to be able to offer therapy online.
I am a UKCP accredited Supervisor completing a Diploma in Integrative Supervision from the Minster Centre, London.
