I offer a safe space in which to reflect upon life's challenges, to explore thoughts and feelings, and to find a path forward.
In my private practice with individuals, I encourage clients to consider language and metaphor to support understanding and healing. Alongside traditional talking therapy, I sometimes will implement or suggest the use of other modes of creative and artistic expression. This can provide further insight, resonance and self-understanding. Often this will involve drawing or painting a picture to express a thought or feeling. Other times it could be listening to music or discussing art images. You do not need to have any experience to be able to engage with this aspect of the therapy. I have found the arts have a surprising and welcome ability to support the psychotherapeutic work, to enhance the therapeutic relationship and bring into the client's awareness relational processes that occur within the space.
I graduated in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy from the Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education. My training has given me a rigorous psychotherapeutic grounding in arts psychotherapy from which I integrate approaches such as Gestalt, Psychodynamic, neuroscience and Transactional Analysis.
I have experience helping clients with:
depression
anxiety
loss of confidence
confusion about which direction to go in life
addiction
bereavement
complex needs / personality disorders
trauma and abuse
work stress
I come from a performing arts background as a musician, teacher and workshop leader in many schools and outreach programmes throughout the UK. Witnessing the power of the arts to transform the mental health of students and people in these settings has instructed my approach and commitment as an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist.
Alongside my private practice, my career has included working in an NHS complex needs service providing art psychotherapy for those with personality disorders. I have also run individual and group art and music therapy for an addictions hospital and pre-dementia programme in South India. I currently manage and supervise a team of counsellors and psychotherapists at an NHS affiliated addiction service in Central London.
I am an accredited member of:
UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy)
HCPC (The Health and Care Professions Council)
BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists)
IATE (The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education)
BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine)
I am also registered with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
I have completed training (accredited by BACP) to be able to offer therapy online.
I am also a UKCP accredited Supervisor completing a Diploma in Integrative Supervisoion from the Minster Centre, London.
